  • Jennifer Christenson

    //

    Jennifer Christenson

    //

    Christenson currently runs Built Green Canada, a national nonprofit organization in the environmental services sector delivering sustainable building programs to the residential building industry. Over the last four years, she has developed a transformational plan focused on growth and centred on three key areas: market penetration and expansion, product diversification, and operational efficiencies. To realize this plan, she has concentrated on communications, business-to-business marketing, branding, as well as government, stakeholder, and board relations. This has required engaged with a divergent group of stakeholders and connecting them for a common purpose and end goal, notwithstanding often conflicting agendas. During her time with Built Green Canada, the organization has made progress in establishing itself as a leader in environmental programs, launched two new product lines and a number of new programs, expanded into new markets, and improved relationships with government and key stakeholders, all while faced with significant changes in the environmental service sector, the residential building industry, and government policy. In 2015, she led the successful resolution of an advocacy campaign for industry, targeted at two provincial utility companies. This resulted in homes certified through Built Green Canada being eligible for rebates from the companies involved—previously, only Natural Resources Canada’s Energy Star for New Homes program was eligible. Under her stewardship, the residential building industry’s participation levels with Built Green Canada have grown year-over-year while revenue has also increased year-over-year from 2013 – 2016; this, despite some of the most trying economic times the province has seen in decades. Christenson also brings over 20 years experience in a variety of communications-related positions and during this time has won over 30 awards in the areas of marketing, communications, branding, and promotions-related work at an international, national, provincial, and local level; to name a few: being named one of the Top 100 Edmonton Women in Business by The Wanderer, an international Gold Quill award through the International Association of Business Communicators for a labour recruitment campaign, multiple awards for her work in the development of the Edmonton Festival City brand and related programming (Excellence in Economic Development Award through the International Economic Development Council, Brochure Gold Winner, Summit International Awards, national Marketing Canada award through the Economic Developers Association of Canada), and being one of three Canadians chosen to participate in a national delegation to Ukraine that presented on marketing and branding to the country’s economic development agencies. She has worked in a number of areas including: environmental services, economic development, tourism, small business, social services, media & publishing, non-profit, government, retail, oil & gas, agriculture, property management, residential construction, education, arts & culture, and entertainment. Christenson holds a Masters in International & Intercultural Communication and for her major research paper, she investigated the province of Alberta’s environmental reputation and the social construction thereof.

    Tara-Lynn Blum

    //

    In 2008, Tara-Lynn Blum established a fulfilling position as both a Customer Liaison & Sustainability Champion within the Landmark Group of Companies, this position allowed her to blend her love for sustainable living and passion in home construction. However, when Landmark launched their solar division (SOLARMAX Power Inc). It was a natural move for Tara to transfer her skill set to the companies “sunny side”. Tara Lynn Blum filled and developed several positions within SOLARMAX Power before taking her current role as Solar Sales Manager. SOLARMAX Power is a solar installation company that uniquely includes the service of Electricity & Gas Retailing. Over the past four years SOLARMAX Power has installed more than 350 residential systems on both new and existing homes throughout Alberta. Eager to translate energy resiliency within the framework of a production builder, Tara’s curiosity lead to building & living in her very own production net zero home. Living net zero since March 2014, has given Tara a unique firsthand perspective when communicating the value of energy efficiency & solar electricity. Since possession of her home, Tara has been a part of a University of Alberta building science study that; monitors performance, provides useful metrics for improving current living practices and improve future net zero modeling. Environmental Minister McKenna, The Eco-Solar Home Tour, and the AMA Insider are a few examples of who is interested in reporting on the topic of net zero living. Opening her home on occasion is one of many ways Tara engages the story of net zero, please visit the links provided below to review the examples listed. A few common messages Tara likes to shares with those wanting to sell and those interested in purchasing an energy resilient home include: “Net Zero is the destination and the journey to get there is a unique personal value” “including solar adds an investment on your home, it adds the investment of a electricity plant” “Bringing energy resiliency into your home is easy and simple - truly available for everyone today” “it’s not about how much energy you need for your home, it’s about how much you want to diversify your energy investment” Solar can often be perceived as “to techy” or “to complicated” of a topic for both sales staff and homeowners alike, Tara provides simple ways to communicate the solar basics and how to satisfy a client’s expectations before, during and after a solar purchase. Solar in Alberta is a fundamental stepping stone towards any net zero project and will naturally become more of the norm with home selections and construction. Tara’s innate passion and enthusiasm for resilient energy is both contagious and enlightening, she strongly believes helping the consumer define personal value for solar is an important key to improve solar sales, and NOW is the time to buy – it is an exciting and attainable opportunity for everyone.

He has over 20 years’ experience in designing and implementing business improvement projects in a wide variety of industries across North America. His work has focused on developing business skills and business process change to deliver measurable financial, operational, safety and environmental results. He is experienced at working across business functions and with all organizational levels, from the executive office to the shop floor. Each one of his business improvement projects has included a combination of the following elements: operational assessment and optimization, change management, leadership coaching, strategy development and execution, organizational design, continuous improvement methodology, business process improvement, performance measurement and business skill development. Each project required structured project planning and controls to deliver the required project outcomes. Joe serves as WMC’s National Financial Director.
